The rhythm gameplay is no good and most of the story is forgettable if you've already played Persona 4, which feels like the opposite of what you want from a supposed continuation of the original's story. If you're in the same boat, you should find it enjoyable enough, but it is very different from P4 obviously.ĭancing All Night is 90% a trash fire and should only be played if you want to know more about Dojima and Nanako. As fighting games, they seem fine, though that's not my genre normally. If you played P3, I'd recommend it it's probably not bad if you only play the P4 side, but I did hear more complaints about that storyline so YMMV.Īrena/Ultimax probably have the next best stories (though I preferred Arena more), but again they work better as P3 spinoffs than P4 spinoffs, especially Ultimax (mainly because of returning P3 characters that weren't in Arena). The Flanderization complaints absolutely apply, but there's actually some character growth on the P3 side as well. Q has the best story and gameplay similar to Persona 4, but to me it really feels like a game better suited as a Persona 3 sequel/spinoff (though to be fair I didn't play the P4 side). It focuses almost entirely on Marie and the new Golden content, and it doesn't take itself seriously. Golden Animation was pretty good, it assume you've fully finished the game and acts like NG+. Imagine taking a 100+ hour game like P4 and trying to cram it in to into less than 10 hours, the only decent episodes were the ones where they stopped trying to adapt the plot (Detective Nanako). Also you can actually get the entire Arena story mode as DLC for Ultimax. That said, it's a very good fighting game. Ultimax was held together by the P3 cast and Labrys again, in terms of story it was far weaker and you wouldn't miss much by skipping it. If you enjoy rhythm games (Project Diva, Shiny TV, Starlight Stage etc.) you'll get enough out of it to be worthwhile.Īrena was very enjoyable, and although the storyline was a bit rough for some of the P4 characters (Yosuke and Teddie being the exceptions) Labrys' storyline was incredible and the individual P3 character routes were good too.
